The Webcamtest: psychometric properties of an innovative assessment tool.
In this presentation we give a short overview of different studies that focus on the psychometric properties of the Webcamtest. The Webcamtest is an innovative online tool to assess active social competencies via the webcam. In the Webcamtest a participant has to react on ten to twelve filmed situations. The Webcamtest is administered online. The situations come up from the server one by one. The participant gives a reaction to each situation. Each reaction is recorded by the webcam and sent directly to the server. The online assessment module enables assessors to judge all reactions of the participants independently and in a structured manner. The assessment scores and assessment texts of the assessor are sent to the server and are stored in the database.
Because of the highly standardized character of the instrument it is possible to examine the psychometric properties of the Webcamtest in the same way as for a classical test. We present results both from experimental studies on student populations as from field studies with real applicants. The studies contain interrater reliability, alpha reliability, test-retest reliability. Furthermore group differences, construct validity, criterion validity and incremental validity over cognitive tests, SJT’s and personality questionnaires. The results show that the Webcamtest is a reliable and valid instrument.
Some future directions and implications for the I/O psychology field are discussed. In the discussion we will also focus on different applications like self-assessment, recognizing and developing talent, coaching and training.
